Choosing a Frame
Which Style Works Best for My Artwork?
Many people often feel overwhelmed when faced with hundreds of moulding / frame samples. They may know they want the artwork framed, but not whether to choose a modern black profile, a traditional wood finish, a metallic edge or something more decorative. The most helpful approach is
to select a frame that supports the artwork without competing with it.
Start by considering the character of the piece. A contemporary print may suit a slim black, white or metallic moulding. A traditional painting might benefit from a wider wooden or ornate frame. For sports shirts, textiles and memorabilia, deeper box-frame profiles are normally more practical because they provide the necessary space for fabric and objects.
Colour is important, but an exact match is not always needed. A frame that repeats a minor colour from the artwork can create a subtle connection, while a contrasting neutral frame can provide a clean border. Mount colour should also be considered; a warm white, charcoal or complementary shade can change the overall impression significantly.
Individuals sometimes choose a frame based only on the room’s furniture. Although the surrounding décor matters, the frame should first suit the artwork and its proportions. A design that works in one room may look unbalanced around a different subject or size.
Our suppliers offers a broad range of mouldings / frames, including more than 2,000 designs and a wide choice of colours and profiles. This makes it possible to create a coordinated look across several pictures without making every frame identical.
Budget is another understandable concern. A cost-effective frame does not have to look basic; careful proportions, a suitable mount and good finishing can make a simple moulding look highly considered.
The best frame is the one that protects the item, fits the available space and allows the artwork’s own character to remain visible. A professional sample or 'chevron' comparison is often the quickest way to make a confident decision.
